Irony In Othello
Number of Words: 732 / Number of Pages: 3
... room to make him look guilty. Also, throughout
the play, it seemed that Othello was the only one who didn't know the truth.
Shakespeare uses situational irony well to make the story more
interesting.
The verbal irony in this novel can sometimes be humorous because
of how ironic it is.
Othello often said things that were actually the opposite of Iago:
"O, thou art wise! 'Tis certain"(IV.I.87), "Honest Iago . . . "(V.II.88),
(II.III.179) & (I.III.319), "I know, Iago, Thy honesty and love doth mince
this matter"(II.III.251-52). These lines are just a few of the ironic
that Othello says ...

Romeo & Juliet: Friar Lawrence
Number of Words: 622 / Number of Pages: 3
... our drift, and hither shall he come; and he and I shall watch thy waking,
and that very night shall Romeo bear thee to Mantua." (Act 4, Scene 1), he tells
Juliet how everything will be all right. Unfortunately, for all his good
intentions the play still ends in tragedy.
Friar Lawrence is a man who is not afraid to take risks when he feels it is
neccesary to help someone. For example in Act 2, Scene 6, when he marries Romeo
and Juliet, he is risking his reputation as a Friar so he can help the two
lovers. Also, when he says "Take thou this vial, being then in bed, and this
distilled ...

King Lear: Evil Nature Of Edmund

... the high class that does not include bastard sons. This is the only rationalization for Edmund's evil inclination.
We find that today, the pattern of people out casted by society and committing evil acts as a way to be strong in such a weak position, still shows its self despite being found by Shakespeare in the 16th century. Only weeks ago innocent people were killed by kids who were tormented by their peers because they were not especially fit to this society. On the news a lot recently is the question of who is to blame for this horrible act of violence, no one knows the answer. Edmund was never ...

The Tragedy Of Julius Caesar: Brutus

... turns his
back..."(act 2, scene 1, ll.24,26). As the quote says, Brutus would not
allow Caesar to rise to power and then turn his back onto the people of
Rome. After the assassination of Julius Caesar, Brutus talks to Antony
about Caesar's death. "Our hearts you see not; they are pitiful; and pity
to the general wrong of Rome..."(act 3, scene 1, ll.185-186). Brutus says
that Antony cannot see their(members of the conspiracy) hearts, which are
full of pity. Again, this shows how Brutus loved Caesar but cared for the
life of Rome and its people more. This is the only reason Brutus would
conspire ag ...

Gossip In Grover’s Corners
Number of Words: 668 / Number of Pages: 3
... “Somebody sick?[Howie Newsome]. Pair of twins over to
Mrs. Goruslawski’s [Dr. Gibbs]. Twins, eh? This town’s gettin’ bigger
every year [Howie] (Wilder, 828).” It is best for the community to know
what is going on so they can help out each other if needed. Gossip builds
strong communities and allows them to function and prosper.
Another positive effect of gossip is that it will force people to
do good things for the community. If they don’t then rumors will start and
you will get a bad name. This is good because you want everyone to be
equaly involved in trying to improve your community. It i ...

A Street Car Named Desire: Blanche
Number of Words: 810 / Number of Pages: 3
... This illustrates how insensitive and demandfull Blanche can be at times. It also shows that Blanche is clearly not the shy and timid young lady she tries to be later in the story. Blanche then shows that she is also hung-up on herself by asking Stella if she looks okay. Stella tells her that she looks fine and Blanche’s response is “you’ve put on some weight, yes, you’re just as plump as a little partridge!” Here again Blanche is guilty of putting herself on a petistal and trying to make herself look better than her surroundings. Throughout the beginning of the play the reader is certain tha ...
