... band as friends and then

Hetfeild went to Downey East Middle School where he started playing in the
auditorium on the stage with friends. Three years later his mother died of
cancer. There was a song written in memory of her memory titled "The God that
Failed." Then he moved to L.A. where he met the band. Lars knew Kirk but he
already had enough guitars in the band. Eventually Dave Mustain was kicked out
of the band because he disagreed with everyone. McGovney followed with him.
Kirk was already playing with a band called Exodus but quit to join Metallica.
And the band acqu ...

Reflections On The Bocelli Concert, April 15, 1999
Number of Words: 827 / Number of Pages: 4
... When the concert began, I immediately came to realize how very lucky we were to have these seats. In fact, they were probably the best seats we could possibly have had because close-ups of the performers were projected onto three large screens during the entire concert.
The concert began with Overture to Norma, played by the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. Conductor Marcello Rota then stepped down to escort Bocelli, who had been blinded at the age of six, onto the stage. Bocelli appeared to be at home onstage; without touching anything he lined himself up dead center with the microphone each ti ...

Rock Music

... a music similar to
jazz played by blacks. This kind of music started to attract white
teenagers. Disc jockey Alan Freed was the one who introduced this music and
later gave it the name of Rock n' Roll. Record companies distributed
records played by whites but composed by blacks. Whites were frustrated
because there weren't any white artists and they didn't want the blacks to
be the stars until Bill Haley appeared with his "Rock Around the Clock". In
this decade, Elvis Presley introduced a music that was sexual suggestive
and outraged dull adults. In time he changed the style of the music by
adopting a ...

Berry Gordy was a featherweight boxer the 1950’s. Who would imagine that there could be such a transition from boxer to record company owner. He wrote that it was in the boxing gym that he saw a poster advertising the-battle-of-the-bands: Duke Ellington vs. Stan Kenton. Next to this poster was an advertisment for the battle-of-the-boxers who he did not name. Berry Gordy had been struggling with his future. Boxing vs. music. After staring at the posters, he noticed that the fighters were abou ...

How To Listen To Music, Not Just Hear It
Number of Words: 1017 / Number of Pages: 4
... side of the speaker is against each wall. For this reason, the bass
is extended (louder), and the tweeters, mid-range, and woofers give you
their undivided attention.
Where to sit is simple, but it takes some easy calculations to find
the perfect spot. There is a common rule for a person to experience the
full effect of the music. In order to do this, measure the distance
between the two speaker cabinets. If the speaker's cabinets are placed
twelve feet apart from each other, divide twelve feet in half, which gives
us six feet. That's the middle, so mark that location. From that mark,

A Rock Concert
Number of Words: 379 / Number of Pages: 2
... you can tell, I was packed in until
the end.
Your sight was not left out either. Plenty of pyrotechnics kept your eyes
filled with colorful wonder as the music played on. Souvenir "AC/DC money" fell
from the top of the building. The bills fluttered down to the hungry hands of
the crowd. The stage was a constant flurry of excitement. This was generally
caused by the hyperactive guitarist, Angus Young. Angus was never at a stand
still. He wore a path in the floor running back and forth. Brian Johnson, the
singer, also aided in the constant "food for your eyes." These guys made the
show sp ...

Sweeney Todd
Number of Words: 311 / Number of Pages: 2
... favorite song is the title song, "The Demon Barber of Fleet
Street". It tells the story of Sweeney Todd.
Although what Sweeney Todd does is wrong, I did feel sorry for him.
He had lost his family and lost his mind also. Mrs. Lovett helped him for
two reasons. She needed the money and she fell in love with him.
I first saw this musical when I was very young. It is still one of
my favorites. George Hearn plays Sweeney Todd and his singing is great.
But it is Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett that I like best.
I would recommend this musical to anyone. ...

... a year later. When he got the guitar Chris
Jonnou, Ben Gillies, and he, were bored. So they decided to start a band.
When they did they made up a song called "Tomorrow." They entered it into a
contest that was held in their city. The judges loved it, so they got to
record a single with the song "Tomorrow." Their first single. Then they
played it on the radio and everybody loved it. Everybody went and bought
the single. A music company called Epic records came to them and they
signed a record deal. They made their first album "Frogstomp." They
started to put a band together in 1992. They started in ...

A Cappella? Is That How You Spell It?

... the
language for sacred text. Thus, the Latin spelling for 'in the style of the
chapel' - a capella - has some historical basis. However, most other musical
terms - forte, accelerando, and many others - are Italian in origin. Since the
Italian spelling is more consistent with other musical terms, it has been used
more frequently.
Given the difficulty of spelling our favorite style of music, we'd like to
endorse the simplicity of a single spelling:
a cappella - two words, two "p's", two "l's."

Canadian Music Artists And Their Impact
Number of Words: 773 / Number of Pages: 3
... did pay his dues and it showed in his debut album, which made history as the best-selling Canadian rap record. Maestro is proud to be Canadian. He shows this in one of his releases. The record was called "Naah Dis Kid Can't Be From Canada?!!!" Nothing seemed to discourage, Maestro, not even the fact that Canadian radio has grown more conservative over the years. Maestro is a prime example of an artist who has been overlooked by a business that has been geared towards recognizing artists from L.A or New York. Back in 1990, when he was known as Maestro Fresh-Wes, his Symphony in Effect sold over 1 ...
